About Melanie

I am a passionate, ambitious and people-focused leader who believes that great leadership is about making a difference, creating opportunities and having the courage to challenge what can be done better. As a senior leader at Bayleaf Care, I am driven by a desire to build an organisation that is not only successful and sustainable but one that genuinely changes lives. What drives me most is knowing that our work has a real purpose. Working in children's social care has reinforced my belief that every child deserves to be understood, valued and given the opportunity to reach their potential, regardless of their experiences or circumstances. This purpose influences the decisions I make, the services I help develop and the standards I expect of myself and those around me. I am particularly passionate about therapeutic care, neuroinclusion and recognising that every individual has different strengths, needs and ways of experiencing the world. I believe I am knownI believe I am known for my determination, resilience, creativity and ability to turn vision into delivery. I have a strong appetite for innovation and continuous improvement, but I also recognise that successful organisations are built through their people. I place great importance on developing talent, encouraging fresh perspectives and creating a culture where people feel confident to contribute, challenge and grow.

About Bayleaf Care Limited

Bayleaf Care is an ambitious, forward-thinking provider of residential care, education and therapeutic support for children and young people who have experienced trauma and/or have learning disabilities. With a strong commitment to person-centred practice, we recognise that every child is an individual, with their own experiences, strengths, needs and aspirations. Our philosophy is built around ensuring that every child feels valued, understood and supported to achieve their full potential. At the heart of Bayleaf Care is an integrated therapeutic model that combines high-quality residential care, education and psychological support. Through trauma-informed approaches, attachment-focused practice and consistent, nurturing relationships, we aim to create safe environments in which children can develop confidence, resilience, independence and a positive sense of self. We are committed to challenging traditional approaches within social care through innovation, continuous improvement and a willingness to think differently. We champion neurodiversity, celebrate individual differences and strive to ensure that both the children in our care and our employees have the opportunity to thrive. As an organisation, we are continually growing and developing our services, investing in our people and exploring new opportunities to improve outcomes for vulnerable children and young people. Our ambition extends beyond delivering excellent services; we want to influence positive

The journey

My professional journey has been shaped by a strong belief in the transformative power of education, relationships and compassionate leadership. My background in English, education and teaching gave me a strong foundation in understanding how individuals learn, communicate and develop, while my subsequent experience in leadership has broadened my perspective to encompass organisational strategy, people, culture and service development. A particularly important part of my journey has been working within an organisation whose purpose is centred on improving outcomes for children and young people. At Bayleaf Care, I have seen first-hand that meaningful change is rarely achieved through a single intervention. It requires consistent relationships, skilled professionals, effective leadership and an environment where every child is understood as an individual. This has shaped my approach to leadership. I have become increasingly focused on bringing together care, education and therapy rather than viewing them as separate functions. My Level 7 Senior Leader apprenticeship has also provided an opportunity to critically reflect on my leadership practice and apply strategic theories around organisational culture, workforce planning, sustainability, change, stakeholder engagement and ethical leadership directly to Bayleaf's development.

Why your vote matters

I represent a style of leadership that combines ambition, innovation, resilience and genuine purpose. I am passionate about making things happen, challenging the status quo and creating opportunities that deliver meaningful and lasting change. Throughout my journey at Bayleaf Care, I have been committed to helping build an organisation that does things differently. We have experienced significant growth, expanded our services and continued to develop innovative approaches to residential care, education and therapeutic support. I have played an important role in translating our ambitions into reality, ensuring that growth is supported by strong operational foundations, effective leadership and a clear commitment to quality. For me, this nomination is about more than personal recognition. It represents the hard work, commitment and collective achievements of the people who make Bayleaf Care what it is. I would be proud to represent an organisation that is demonstrating that compassionate care, innovation, commercial growth and operational excellence can successfully work together. I genuinely care about the difference I make and am committed to building a lasting impact.
