About Chloe

I love being able to combine my passion for the game with reporting, capturing memorable moments, sharing updates and celebrating the people who make football so special. Whether it's the action on the pitch or the stories behind the scenes, I enjoy helping bring supporters closer to the game. Volunteering as a reporter is something I genuinely love doing, and I'm incredibly grateful that the time, enthusiasm and commitment I've put into it have been recognised through this nomination. Football is about so much more than 90 minutes, and being able to play a small part in sharing that with others is something I'm really proud of. I believe non-league football deserves to be celebrated just as much as the professional game. The passion, dedication and community spirit that surrounds it are what make volunteering in sports reporting so rewarding.

Proudest achievements

  • Two of my proudest achievements have been commentating at the Wolves Women cup final against Stourbridge at Molineux, where I was the only female member of the reporting team, and being invited to report on a West Bromwich Albion men's first-team fixture. Both opportunities have been really special to me and are moments I'm incredibly proud of. They've allowed me to gain experience in some fantastic footballing environments and pushed me to develop my confidence and skills as a reporter.
  • Not only this, I have also truly enjoyed my time at other teams lower down the football pyramid where you see the most passionate fans and players at non league level. I have loved getting to know members of the team and management and being welcomed into their club.
  • Finally, a huge achievement for me was bringing some of my own class of children from school into the studio to record a song they had been working on and look at the behind the scenes workings of a radio station. I felt immensely proud to be able to give the children an opportunity that they still talk about today.

About Black Country Radio

Black Country Radio is a community radio station dedicated to bringing the people of the Black Country together through local news, music, entertainment, sport and community stories. Run by local people, for local people, the station prides itself on supporting the communities it serves and giving a platform to local voices, organisations, charities and businesses. Sport is a particularly important part of its output, with live match commentary, local football and rugby coverage, and a commitment to shining a spotlight on grassroots sport and the teams that make the region special.

The journey

My journey with Black Country Radio began while I was at university, when I first got involved in volunteering and started developing my experience in sports reporting. What began as an opportunity to gain experience alongside my studies has grown into a real passion and something I've continued to dedicate my time to. Through Black Country Radio, I've had the opportunity to cover a range of non-league football fixtures, reporting on matches and helping bring local football to a wider audience. I've also been fortunate enough to take on opportunities beyond regular match reporting, including commentating at the Wolves Women cup final against Stourbridge at Molineux, where I was the only female member of the reporting team, and being invited to report at West Bromwich Albion for a men's first-team fixture. Being part of Black Country Radio has given me opportunities to develop my confidence, build my skills and experience football in ways I wouldn't have imagined when I first started. It's also allowed me to be part of a team that shares a genuine commitment to grassroots sport and giving local clubs the coverage they deserve. I think the impact of Black Country Radio's sports coverage is particularly important. Non-league clubs are at the heart of so many communities, with players, volunteers and supporters putting so much into their teams. By reporting on fixtures, sharing results and telling the stories behind the clubs, we help give those people recognition and bring their achievements to a wider audience. I'm proud to have played a part in that over the years. What started as a university volunteering opportunity has developed into something I'm genuinely passionate about, and I'm grateful to Black Country Radio for the opportunities, experience and encouragement along the way.

Why your vote matters

What started as a volunteering opportunity while at university has grown into something I'm incredibly proud to be part of. Black Country Radio has given me the opportunity to turn my interest in football into something meaningful, while allowing me to give back to the local sporting community. Over the years, I've dedicated my spare time to covering non-league football, sharing the achievements of local clubs and players and helping bring their stories to a wider audience. It's been particularly rewarding to build my experience as a woman in sports reporting and hopefully encourage others to follow a similar path. One of the things I love most about volunteering is knowing that, even in a small way, I'm helping make a difference. Behind every non-league club are players, volunteers, supporters and communities who put so much into the game, and I feel incredibly lucky to help tell their stories and give them the recognition they deserve. Being nominated means more than I can put into words. It's lovely to have something I've given so much of my spare time to recognised, and I'd be so grateful for your vote. Not just for me, but for the importance of celebrating local sport.
